Assessment comes before removal

A mole, pigmented mark or new growth should not be treated simply because you want it removed. At SR Integrated Health & Wellness, our nurse-led Skin Lesion Clinic starts with an assessment and a discussion of the appropriate pathway.

This appointment is focused on assessment. It is not a promise of cosmetic mole removal, and not every lesion can or should be treated at the clinic.

Changes that need medical advice

See a GP if a mole changes size, shape or colour, becomes painful or itchy, or is inflamed, bleeding or crusty. A new or unusual mark that persists also needs medical advice.

Do not wait for a cosmetic appointment if you are concerned about a changing lesion. An online description or photograph cannot rule out skin cancer.

What happens at your appointment?

  1. Your concern: we discuss how long the lesion has been present, any changes and symptoms.
  2. Assessment: we review the lesion and relevant medical history before considering treatment.
  3. Next steps: we explain whether a benign-lesion treatment pathway, additional assessment or medical review is appropriate.

Bring details of previous assessments or treatment and any photographs that help show a change over time. Tell us about relevant personal or family history and your medication.

Map My Mole

Map My Mole by Community Dermatology

Where clinically appropriate, we offer access to Map My Mole. Images of selected moles or pigmented lesions can be submitted for review by a UK consultant dermatologist, with a report to help guide the next steps.

This is an image-based opinion with limitations. It does not provide a definitive cancer diagnosis or replace an in-person medical assessment when that is needed. We discuss suitability, consent, costs and the reporting process before submission.

A report is an additional part of the assessment pathway, not permission to remove a lesion cosmetically.

When treatment should not proceed

If a lesion is concerning, uncertain or unsuitable for cosmetic treatment, we do not proceed with removal. We explain the reason and advise on the appropriate medical route, which may involve your GP or a dermatologist.

Sometimes the most useful outcome of an appointment is understanding why a lesion should be checked elsewhere. Your assessment and any advice remain important even when treatment is not offered.

Frequently asked questions

Does a mole check mean I will have it removed?

No. Assessment and removal are different decisions. We agree the next step only after reviewing your concern.

Is Map My Mole a full-body mole mapping appointment?

The service described here concerns selected lesions submitted for image review. Contact us to discuss the scope of your assessment before booking.

What if I notice another change afterwards?

Seek further medical advice. A previous assessment does not mean a later change can be ignored.
