What are skin tags?

Skin tags are soft growths that often appear in skin folds or areas of friction, such as the neck or underarms. They are usually harmless and do not need removal unless they bother you.

Other growths can resemble a skin tag. At SR Integrated Health & Wellness, we assess the lesion before discussing cosmetic removal.

Why consider removal?

You may want to discuss a tag because it catches on clothing or jewellery, feels irritated or affects your confidence. Your reason for seeking advice matters, but it does not automatically make a lesion suitable for treatment.

If a growth is getting bigger, painful or bleeding, seek GP advice rather than assume it is simply a skin tag.

Treatment options at SR

Our Skin Lesion Clinic offers CryoPen and advanced diathermy for suitable benign lesions. CryoPen uses targeted freezing; diathermy uses controlled electrical energy. We recommend an approach according to the lesion and the treatment area.

The consultation gives you time to understand the proposed method, alternatives, expected recovery, risks and costs. If the appearance is uncertain or medical review is needed, we do not proceed with cosmetic treatment.

Preparing for your consultation

Tell us how long the growth has been present, whether it has changed, and whether you have tried treating it before. Bring relevant medication and medical-history details.

Do not cut, tie off or attempt to remove a growth yourself. Home removal can cause bleeding, infection or scarring and may treat the wrong type of lesion.

Healing and expectations

Removal can leave a mark, including scarring or darker pigmentation; these changes can occasionally persist. The treatment method and area influence your recovery.

We provide individual aftercare and explain when to contact us. Leave the treated area alone while it heals and follow the instructions given at your appointment. Your review plan is based on the response to treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Can every skin tag be removed?

No. Size, location, the appearance of the lesion and your health history all affect suitability. An assessment helps us choose the appropriate pathway.

What if I have several tags?

We can discuss the concerns together and explain which lesions may be suitable, how treatment could be planned and the associated costs.

Do I need to know which treatment to book?

No. Start with a skin lesion assessment. You do not need to choose between CryoPen and diathermy yourself.
