Plasma Pen Skin Tightening & Resurfacing
Plasma Pen is a precision skin treatment used to improve selected areas of skin laxity, fine lines and uneven texture.
The device generates a small plasma arc close to the surface of the skin, creating carefully controlled treatment points without the tip being used to cut the skin.
These controlled areas trigger a natural healing response within the treated tissue. As the skin heals and remodels, treatment may help improve the appearance of selected areas of laxity and texture.
At SR Integrated Health & Wellness Clinic, Plasma Pen is only recommended following consultation and careful assessment of your skin, treatment area and individual risk factors.
What Can Plasma Pen Help With?
Depending on individual suitability, Plasma Pen may be considered for:
- Fine lines
- Crepey-looking skin
- Selected areas of mild skin laxity
- Lines around the mouth
- Selected facial lines
- Uneven skin texture
- Small, localised areas requiring precision treatment
Suitability varies considerably according to skin type, medical history and the area being treated.
Eye Area
One area patients commonly ask about is loose or crepey-looking skin around the eyes.
Plasma treatment can be considered for selected patients where improvement in superficial skin laxity or texture is the aim.
The eye area requires particularly careful assessment because not every concern is caused by excess or lax skin.
Where another treatment or medical/surgical assessment would be more appropriate, this will be discussed during consultation.
How Does Plasma Pen Work?
The device creates a controlled plasma arc between the tip and the surface of the skin.
A series of small treatment points are placed according to the area and treatment plan.
These create controlled superficial thermal effects and initiate the body’s natural healing and remodelling response.
Unlike injectable treatments, Plasma Pen does not add volume to the face.
What Happens During Treatment?
Your skin will first be assessed, cleansed and prepared.
Appropriate comfort measures are used according to the treatment protocol.
The practitioner then places a series of precise treatment points across the selected area.
Treatment time depends on the size and complexity of the area being treated.
What Will I Look Like Afterwards?
Plasma Pen has visible downtime, and this is important to consider before booking.
Small crusts or dots develop at the treatment points and remain visible while the skin heals.
Temporary effects can include:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- Crusting
- Tightness
- Dryness
Swelling can be more noticeable when treating around the eyes.
You must allow the treatment points to heal naturally and avoid picking or prematurely removing crusts.
How Long Is the Downtime?
Recovery varies depending on treatment intensity, area and individual healing response.
The small treatment crusts commonly remain visible for several days before naturally shedding.
Redness or changes in skin appearance can persist for longer as the skin continues to recover.
We will explain the expected recovery period for your individual treatment before you proceed.
When Will I See Results?
Some changes may become apparent as the treatment area heals, but skin remodelling is a gradual process.
The final outcome should therefore not be judged immediately after treatment.
Results vary between individuals and depend on factors including the treatment area, degree of laxity, skin quality, age and individual healing response.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Some patients may require one treatment while others may benefit from additional sessions.
We will allow appropriate healing and reassess the area before recommending further treatment.
More treatment is not necessarily better, and adequate recovery time between procedures is important.
Plasma Pen vs RF Microneedling
Both treatments can be used when skin quality and laxity are concerns, but they work differently.
Plasma Pen creates precise superficial thermal treatment points and may be particularly useful for selected small or localised areas.
RF microneedling uses needles to deliver controlled radiofrequency energy at selected depths within the skin and may be more appropriate when treating broader areas, texture, acne scarring or deeper skin remodelling.
Your skin, treatment area, downtime tolerance and desired outcome will help determine which approach is more appropriate.
Pigmentation & Skin-Type Considerations
Plasma treatments are not appropriate for everyone.
Because the treatment creates a controlled inflammatory and healing response, changes in pigmentation can occur following treatment.
Some skin types may have a greater risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or other pigment changes.
Careful skin assessment and appropriate aftercare are therefore particularly important.
Consultation & Safety
Before recommending Plasma Pen treatment, we will assess your:
- Skin type
- Treatment area
- Degree of skin laxity
- Medical history
- Medications
- Previous procedures
- Healing and scarring history
- Pigmentation risk
- Treatment expectations
Certain medical conditions, active skin problems and other factors may mean treatment is unsuitable or should be postponed.
Potential risks and complications will be discussed as part of the consent process.
Aftercare
Following aftercare instructions is an essential part of Plasma Pen treatment.
You should not pick or scratch the treatment points.
You will receive specific advice regarding cleansing, skincare, sun exposure and activities to avoid while your skin heals.
Appropriate sun protection is particularly important because newly treated skin can be more vulnerable to pigment changes.
Is Plasma Pen Right for Me?
Plasma Pen is one of several technologies available within the clinic for improving skin quality and laxity.
It isn’t automatically the best treatment simply because an area of skin appears loose.
Depending on your assessment, we may instead recommend RF microneedling, HIFU, injectable skin treatments, professional skincare or another approach.
We will assess the concern first and recommend the option that is most appropriate for your skin and treatment goals.
