Medical Microneedling & Exosome Treatments
Medical microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating its natural repair response and collagen remodelling. Treatment may help improve the appearance of uneven texture, selected acne scars and fine lines.
At SR Integrated Health & Wellness Clinic in Hartlepool, treatment depth and intensity are tailored to your skin, concerns and goals following an individual assessment.
We also offer optional topical exosome products applied after microneedling. During your consultation, we’ll explain the product being used, its suitability and the potential benefits and limitations. Evidence for the additional benefits of exosomes alongside microneedling is still developing, and results vary.
Your personalised plan includes advice on the recommended course, expected recovery and aftercare.
What Can Microneedling Help With?
Microneedling may be used to improve the appearance of:
- Acne scarring
- Uneven skin texture
- Enlarged or visible pores
- Fine lines
- Early signs of skin ageing
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Certain types of superficial scarring
- Loss of skin firmness
- General skin quality
Treatment suitability will depend on your individual skin and the type and severity of the concern being treated.
Microneedling for Acne Scarring
Microneedling can be particularly useful for selected types of atrophic acne scarring.
Controlled micro-injury stimulates a wound-healing response within the skin, supporting collagen remodelling over time and helping improve the appearance and texture of suitable scars.
Acne scars vary considerably in type and depth, and not every scar responds in the same way.
During consultation we will assess your scarring and discuss whether standard microneedling, RF microneedling or another treatment approach would be more appropriate.
Active inflammatory acne generally requires assessment and management before directly microneedling affected areas.
How Does Microneedling Work?
The microneedling device creates thousands of controlled microscopic channels within the skin.
These trigger a natural repair response involving a series of healing processes and the production and remodelling of collagen.
Unlike treatments that rely primarily on applying products to the surface, microneedling works by creating controlled mechanical stimulation within the skin.
Results develop progressively as the skin remodels following treatment.
Microneedling with Exosomes
We offer topical exosome products as an optional addition to medical microneedling. The product is applied to the skin after the microneedling procedure.
Exosomes are tiny particles released by cells that carry biological signals. Their use in cosmetic skin treatments is an emerging area, and evidence for added benefits beyond microneedling alone remains limited.
We’ll discuss the product selected for your treatment, suitability, potential risks and realistic expectations during your consultation. This option is not necessary for everyone, and improved results cannot be guaranteed.
What Happens During Treatment?
Your skin is cleansed and prepared before treatment.
Depending on the area and treatment intensity, appropriate comfort measures may be used.
The microneedling device is then passed systematically across the treatment area at a depth selected according to your skin and treatment goal.
The procedure commonly takes around 30–60 minutes depending on the area being treated.
If you have chosen the exosome option and it is suitable for you, the topical product is applied after microneedling. You will then receive aftercare instructions tailored to your treatment.
What Will My Skin Look Like Afterwards?
Immediately following microneedling, the skin commonly appears red and may feel warm or sensitive, similar to mild sunburn.
Temporary effects may include:
- Redness
- Sensitivity
- Mild swelling
- Tightness
- Dryness or light flaking
The intensity and duration of these effects vary according to the depth of treatment and individual skin response.
When Will I See Results?
Some patients notice improvements in skin freshness and texture relatively early following treatment.
Collagen remodelling, however, is a gradual biological process.
More significant improvements in concerns such as scarring and texture develop progressively over the weeks and months following treatment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments required depends on your skin and what we are treating.
General skin rejuvenation may require fewer sessions, whereas concerns such as acne scarring commonly benefit from a planned course of treatments.
We will recommend an appropriate treatment programme following assessment and review your progress throughout the course.
Microneedling vs Microinfusion
Although both treatments use fine needles, their primary aims are different.
Microinfusion is generally more superficial and focuses on overall skin quality, hydration and radiance alongside the application of an appropriate skin solution.
Medical microneedling provides more deliberate mechanical stimulation of the skin and is generally selected where collagen induction and skin remodelling are the main objectives.
Microneedling vs RF Microneedling
We also offer radiofrequency microneedling.
Traditional microneedling creates controlled mechanical micro-injuries to stimulate repair and collagen remodelling.
RF microneedling combines microneedles with controlled radiofrequency energy delivered into the skin, providing an additional thermal stimulus.
RF microneedling may therefore be considered for patients requiring more intensive treatment of concerns such as skin laxity, texture or selected acne scarring.
More intensive does not automatically mean more appropriate. We will recommend the technology best suited to your skin and treatment goals.
Consultation & Suitability
Before treatment we will assess your skin and discuss your:
- Medical history
- Medications
- Current skincare
- Previous skin treatments
- History of scarring
- Current skin conditions
- Treatment goals
Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided in the presence of certain infections, active inflammatory skin conditions or other contraindications.
Aftercare
Your skin barrier is temporarily more vulnerable following microneedling, so appropriate aftercare is important.
You will receive personalised instructions following treatment. These may include temporarily avoiding active skincare ingredients, excessive heat, swimming, strenuous exercise and other activities that may irritate the treated skin.
Appropriate sun protection is particularly important while the skin is recovering.
Which Treatment Should I Choose?
You don’t need to decide between microneedling, microinfusion and RF microneedling yourself.
We offer all three because they have different strengths.
We will assess your skin, the depth and nature of your concern, your tolerance for downtime and the outcome you are hoping to achieve before recommending the most appropriate treatment plan.
