Lines & Wrinkles Consultation & Treatment

Facial lines and wrinkles develop naturally over time as a result of repeated muscle movement alongside changes in collagen, elastin, skin quality and facial structure.

At SR Integrated Health & Wellness Clinic, we take an individual approach to facial ageing. Rather than treating every line in isolation, we assess facial movement, anatomy, skin quality and your overall concerns before discussing the most appropriate treatment options.

Our aim is to achieve a refreshed, balanced appearance while maintaining natural facial expression.

  • Patients commonly seek advice regarding:

    • Frown lines between the eyebrows
    • Forehead lines
    • Crow’s feet around the eyes
    • Bunny lines around the nose
    • Downturned appearance around the mouth
    • Chin dimpling
    • Prominent muscle activity within the lower face
    • Neck bands
    • Other expression-related facial lines

Suitability and available treatment options will depend on individual assessment.

Not all wrinkles develop for the same reason.

Dynamic lines appear primarily when facial muscles move, for example when frowning, smiling or raising the eyebrows.

Over time, repeated movement combined with changes in the skin can cause these lines to remain visible even when the face is relaxed. These are often referred to as static lines.

Understanding what is causing a line is important because different concerns may require different treatment approaches.

Your appointment begins with a medical and facial assessment.

We will discuss:

  • The areas that concern you
  • Your desired outcome
  • Medical history and medications
  • Previous aesthetic treatments
  • Facial anatomy and muscle movement
  • Existing facial asymmetry
  • Skin quality
  • Relevant risks and treatment alternatives

Where a prescription-only medicine is being considered, an appropriate prescribing consultation and clinical assessment are required before treatment.

Treatment is only recommended where it is clinically appropriate for you.

Our philosophy is not to create a completely expressionless face.

Carefully planned treatment can soften excessive muscle activity while retaining appropriate movement and expression.

Dose and placement should be tailored to your individual anatomy, muscle strength, facial proportions and desired outcome rather than applying the same treatment pattern to every patient.

The timeframe depends upon the treatment selected.

Where treatment involves reducing excessive facial muscle activity, changes develop gradually rather than immediately.

Your practitioner will explain what to expect, when results are likely to develop and when an appropriate review should take place as part of your individual treatment plan.

Results are temporary and vary between individuals.

Factors including the treatment used, area treated, muscle strength, individual response and metabolism can influence duration.

Repeated treatment is not required and should be undertaken only when appropriate following reassessment.

Many patients are able to return to normal daily activities following treatment.

Temporary effects can include:

  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Small areas of swelling at injection sites
  • Bruising
  • Headache

Other treatment-specific risks and potential complications will be discussed fully during consultation before you decide whether to proceed.

Almost every face has some natural asymmetry.

This can become more apparent when facial muscles contract differently on each side.

Your facial movement will be assessed before treatment and any existing asymmetry discussed with you.

The aim of treatment is improvement and balance rather than creating mathematically perfect symmetry.

Lines and wrinkles are not always caused solely by muscle movement.

Loss of facial volume, changes in skin quality, pigmentation, sun damage and reduced collagen can all contribute to an ageing appearance.

Depending on your assessment, we may therefore discuss other options such as:

  • Medical-grade skincare
  • Chemical resurfacing
  • IPL skin rejuvenation
  • Microneedling
  • RF microneedling
  • Dermal fillers
  • Skin boosters
  • Polynucleotides
  • Other appropriate skin treatments

Sometimes combining approaches provides a more balanced result than concentrating on one individual line.

Injectable aesthetic procedures are medical treatments and are not without risk.

Your practitioner will discuss relevant risks, expected benefits, alternatives and aftercare before treatment.

We encourage patients to ask questions and make an informed decision without pressure to proceed.

You do not need to decide which treatment or how many areas you require before your consultation.

Tell us what you have noticed and what you would like to improve.

We can assess your facial movement, anatomy and skin and discuss the options that are appropriate for you, with a focus on subtle, natural-looking results.
